For first-time visitors, immersing yourself in the rich tapestry of history, art, and culture is a must. Here’s a four-day itinerary that will have you falling head over heels for the City of Light. It will give some of what the area has to offer — and hopefully leave you excited to come back!
Day 1: Iconic Views
Morning: Start your journey at the heart of Paris—Notre-Dame Cathedral. Although closed for renovations, its exterior and the surrounding area still exude historic charm. Take a stroll along the Seine before heading to Île Saint-Louis for a delightful breakfast at a charming café.
Afternoon: Head to Montmartre for a visit to the stunning Sacré-Cœur Basilica. The panoramic view of Paris from the hilltop is breathtaking. Spend time exploring this artistic neighborhood and grab lunch at a local bistro. Enjoy a relaxed dinner at a nearby restaurant in Montmartre, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of this bohemian quarter.
Day 2: Museum and Shopping
Morning: After enjoying a morning cappuccino, dive into the artistic wonders of Musée d’Orsay, housing an impressive collection of Impressionist art. This museum is typically less busy than going to the Louvre – but an equally interesting experience. After a tour of the museum, stroll along Champs-Élysées for high-end shopping and consider a stop at Galleries Lafayette for a bit of additional retail therapy. After an afternoon of shopping, head over the bridge to see the Eiffel Tower. If you’re up for it, you can walk up the steps to see the middle of the tower and take an elevator to the very top.
Day 3: Louvre and Relaxation
Morning: Begin your day at the Louvre Museum, immersing yourself in its vast collection of masterpieces. The Mona Lisa is certainly worth seeing (though the wait can be long), but so are many of the other works in the Louvre. After a morning of art appreciation, spend a leisurely afternoon in the Luxembourg Gardens, enjoying the serene atmosphere and perhaps a picnic. There are a few shops near by that make the perfect pitstop for picnic materials before going to the gardens.
Evening: Opt for a relaxed evening, maybe a casual dinner in Le Marais or a Seine River cruise to unwind. The river cruise is a great opportunity to see the Eiffel Tower at night.
Day 4: Versailles Day Trip
Morning: You’ll have to wake up early to take the train to Versailles to explore the opulent Palace of Versailles and its magnificent gardens. Enjoy lunch in Versailles and explore the town center, admiring its charm and history.
Evening: Return to Paris for a delightful dinner or a night stroll by the Eiffel Tower.
